Getting ready for Cancun

I am on the road to Cancún, where I am to join thousands of other environmental activists as we participate in the alternative summits on climate change, meeting together to participate in workshops, roundtables and strategy sessions on the best ways to bring the concept of climate justice to the table. With little confidence that the COP 16 talks – organized by the United Nations – will have much success in taking a strong enough stance to adequately address the real causes of climate change, hope is high that the alternative summits can continue to put forward some real solutions between December 5th and 10th.

I will be keeping up a daily blog while I am there, posting some of my own thoughts on the summit, include interviews with others who are participating, and share information about climate change with links to other media sources.

Supported by the Maritimes-Guatemalan Breaking the Silence Network, I am currently living in Guatemala, completing a 9-month CIDA internship with CEIBA – a Guatemalan environmental rights organization – working on issues related to food sovereignty and climate justice.
