Supporting existing Locals

The existing Locals need resources to hire journalists, fundraisers, editors, and otherwise maintain and improve their operations. Lines of communication between Locals and the national network need to be further opened and ties strengthened.

All locals have done some

5

All locals have done some great things with current resources, but I think in Halifax at least we could use: a fundraiser, another editor, more of a budget for contributors, a mainstream media monitor...

Currently our local is run by a very small, dedicated core of volunteers and a paid part-time coordinator, a situation which sometimes feels fragile. It seems the need to support existing locals is often pitted against the desire to start new ones; while it doesn't necessarily need to be an either/or equation, I think it's important to really help existing locals grow and thrive before putting resources into new locals. It takes quite a lot of time and dedication for a local MC site to be a serious local news site.
