Climate Crisis & Solutions Visible at Unist'ot'en Camp

by Eric Doherty

See video

The Unist'ot'en resistance camp is surrounded by dead trees killed by a pine beetle epidemic that scientists attribute to warmer temperatures resulting from burning fossil fuels. In this video Freda Huson and Dini Ze Toghestiy discuss connection between extreme fossil fuels, the pine beetle epidemic, and how solar power and the permaculture garden is an important part of what the camp stands for.

The camp is on unceded Wet'suwet'en territory in northern BC on the route of several proposed pipelines including the Pacific Trail fracked gas pipeline and the Enbridge Northern Gateway tarsands pipeline. The Camp is intended to protect both protect Wet'suwet'en territory, and to protect Mother Earth on a global scale by keeping fracking gas and tarsands bitumen in the ground.

Unist’ot’en Camp is a resistance community whose purpose is to protect sovereign Wet’suwet’en territory from several proposed pipelines from the Tar Sands Gigaproject and shale gas from Hydraulic Fracturing Projects in the Peace River Region.
