We're currently looking for a motivated intern to help us develop our membership base!

A bit about who we are:

The Media Co-op is a national web & print news outlet that aims to provide accurate, critical coverage that is accountable to its readers and the subjects it tackles. Canada's first national media co-operative, we have local co-ops in Halifax, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver and publish the bi-monthly newsmagazine, The Dominion. We are online at http://mediacoop.ca and http://dominionpaper.ca.

• Inspired by social justice and grassroots organizing?
• Excited about meeting new people?
• Jazzed about the possibilities of research?
• Looking for a different experience from corporate news organisations?
• Looking for experience with a bi-monthly national publication and news website?
• Interested in learning more about fundraising and membership development in a non-proit, co-operative model?

We're looking for someone who:

• Has a flair for creative research methods and thinks fundraising for social change sounds fun!!
• Works well independently and as part of a team
• Loves working with people and relationship-building with partners
• Wants to learn more about fundraising and development methods
• Is passionate about community journalism
• Is proficient in written and spoken English (other languages an asset)

Familiarity with word-processing and spreadsheet software (Open Office, etc), desktop publishing (Indesign, Photoshop) and online media tools (Facebook, Twitter, Flickr) an asset, but not required

To apply, please send us a short cover letter (max. 300 words) explaining why you would like to intern at the Media Co-op by April 11, 2012. Internships will begin in April 2012 at our office located in Montreal, QC, and will run for three months at eight hours per week (with occasional flexibility to help out at events in the evening and on weekends).

While we are currently unable to pay interns, we are willing to structure the internships to meet course-credit needs and make sure interns are assigned diverse and challenging tasks.

Please note: Interns must be located in Montreal for the duration of their internship and will need access to a computer and internet access.
