The Media Co-op is hiring: National Membership Co-ordinator

The Media Co-op is hiring a part-time National Membership Co-ordinator. The individual will work closely with the Media Co-op team in Montreal and be responsible for communicating with members about subscriptions, distribution, donations and sustaining, and overseeing the organizations fundraising.

This is a one-year position, with possibility of renewal, located in Montreal, Quebec.

We are looking for an individual with experience in fundraising and communicating with the public, who is organized and can work independently, and who is familiar with administrative software such as word processors and spreadsheets. The successful applicant will join our team of editors and contributors located across Canada to work on the Media Co-op, a growing network of local, grassroots, online news outlets, which also publishes The Dominion magazine.

Working in conjunction with the National Production Coordinator, local editors and other co-op members, the successful candidate will undertake:

  • Planning and coordinating sales/revenue generation (including selling advertising space, subscriptions, etc)

  • Developing and coordinating membership drives

  • Planning and coordinating fundraising activities of the co-op

  • Soliciting advertising both for web and for print

  • Maintaining regular contact with current members

  • Assisting in newsstand distribution

  • Maintaining the co-op's membership database

Experience/skills:

  • Previous experience soliciting funds for a national organization & writing multiple audience pitches

  • Previous experience running membership drives for a national organization

  • Experience coordinating a diverse team and working in a collective environment, both in person & virtually

  • Financial goal-setting within a decentralized team environment

  • Experience with database management

  • Strong communications skills and ability to work with the public

  • Strong knowledge of office administration software

  • Committed to independent media and social justice

Assets:

  • Experience motivating a part-time sales team

  • Previous experience working for a magazine or publishing house

  • Experience selling advertising space

  • Familiarity with design and layout software (Photoshop, InDesign, etc)

  • Bilingualism (English/French)

  • Knowledge of web publishing & social media tools

Based in Montreal, this is a virtual position; candidates must have access to a computer and internet connection. The position is for 15 hours per week, at a pay rate of $12.50 an hour.
