Idle No More Marches in Montreal
Over 200 people marched through Montreal today as part of the Idle No More movement. Participants spoke out against the impact on environmental protections in current federal legislation.
They also spoke in particular against plans to privatize First Nations land which will allow it to be sold off to private corporations. While the government argues this simply grants greater property rights, many First Nations activists see it as an attack on collective territory and a move towards further fracturing of Indigenous communities.
