The Media Co-op (www.mediacoop.ca) is looking for pitches for articles for our Trans Mountain Resistance Series. 

We aim to publish six in-depth articles in the summer of 2021 about different aspects of the Trans Mountain Pipeline expansion project and the struggles by Indigenous peoples and others to oppose the project. Our primary interest is in grassroots journalism covering what is happening along the pipeline route, but we are open to other forms as well. Articles should be 1000-2000 words in length, with some flexibility. We are also interested in audio, video, and photojournalism. Please send us a pitch before writing or creating! We will pay $400-$600 per piece, depending on how in-depth it is. 

We are accepting pitches effectively immediately as of June 1, 2021, and on a rolling basis. To have a good chance of having your pitch considered, please submit it by June 30, 2021. Anyone can contribute to this series. We strongly encourage Indigenous writers and journalists to submit. The project will be edited by an Indigenous editor contracted for this project, with support from our volunteer editorial collective.

The Media Co-op has been publishing grassroots journalism online in the Canadian context since 2006. For us, "grassroots" means that when we cover a topic, we start from the people directly affected by the policies or activities in question. This often means doing coverage of those resisting capitalist and colonial violence, including land defenders and activists. We prioritize struggles by Indigenous people, people targeted by policing and other forms of state violence, Black and other racialized people, queer and trans people, and workers.
