Saskatchewan Moves One Step Closer To A Nuclear Waste Dump

The good news for residents of Pine House and English River First Nation is that the Nuclear Waste Management Organization, (NWMO) has decided not to build their nuclear waste facility in either of those two communities. The bad news for Saskatchewan is that they still intend on building here, though most likely in Chrieghton, though they say they are still looking at other communities across Canada and that the final decision is 'years away'.

Chreighton is 500 kilometres northeast of Saskatoon. Unlike in other communities the NWMO has looked at, such as Pinehouse, where a well publicized walk to Regina was organized to oppose the project in 2011, there has not been any vocal public opposition to the plan in Chreighton so far, and much of the town has been vocally supportive since the project was first proposed.
