On Nov 15, 2011 promenent environmentalist, author, and activist Bill McKibben showed his support for Occupy Vancouver by coming out to speak about the importance of the Occupy Movement to the fight for sane climate policy. He celebrated the recent delay of the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline, and attributed this victory partially to the momentum built by the Occupy Movement. He also praised the recent direct action against Keystone on Parliment Hill, mentioning the many people arrested including the Council of Canadians' Maude Barlow.

Hailed “the world’s best green journalist” by Time magazine, McKibben has re-framed the climate change debate. He is the author of a dozen books about the environment, including his seminal The End of Nature (1989), widely regarded as the first book on climate change for a general audience.

In addition to his writings, he has worked tirelessly to foster global grass-roots activism in the struggle for climate justice.
