Toronto's Mayoral Race Could Have A Positive Outcome

Matt Marnaugh, of the infamous legalization network known as the Ontario Hash Mob, is a long time drug law reform activist who has played  major role in organizing some of Toronto's largest public protest events for many years. The Hash Mob, which started as the Hamilton Hash Mob and Later Toronto Hash Mob, became the de-facto Ontario wing, and later the de-facto national center of the cross-Canada pot activist network previously centered on Marc Emery's Cannabis Culture Headquarters in Vancouver, after Marc Emery's extradition to the US.

He has also been at the center of a major court case surrounding Canada's medical marijuana laws that has lasted many years.

Marnaugh originally just intended to run for City Counsel, on a platform of undoing many of the cities most oppressive policies allegedly designed to target drug users and dealers, including the random stop and search tactics of the TAVIS program.

But finding that much of the 420 support base is scattered accross the GTA, he found it actually more feasible to run for mayor.

While some candidates may be progressive, it is likely those will be 'too progressive' in many respects and will likely alienate a large part of Toronto's voter base as a matter of course, but with the right support, Marnaugh has more potential to bring progressive leaning people as well as more centrist or even small 'c' conservative element on board by centering on the kinds of legal reforms that most young, largely non-voting Torontonians agree on.
